Heather’s Personal Picks & Tricks

As a former swimwear model, personal trainer, CEO/founder of The Body Bartender to now an esthetics student, I get asked lots of questions about my personal skincare tips and tricks, the makeup I use and how to stay healthy and fit. I’ve always been my girlfriends’ go-to girl for advice and was once told by a close friend that I was her “body bartender.”

Since the launch of TBB, I receive a lot of correspondences from people inquiring about our products and how I got this business started, as well as recommendations for spas, other skincare lines and diet tips.  So, by the encouragement of a few friends and colleagues, I decided to dedicate this page to all of  you in hopes of answering your questions, motivating and inspiring you, as well as reminding you to DREAM BIG, STAY HEALTHY & LIVE LIFE TO THE FULLEST.

Cheers!

Some of my favorite things:

My skincare secrets:

Meaningful Beauty by Cindy Crawford Creme de Serum

This is a staple in my nightime regime.  It contains Hyaluronic Acid which is often termed as the “key to the fountain of youth”. It also has Hyaluronic acid , a natural substance that happens to be present generally in the dermis. This acid is of utmost important to our skin as it makes us look healthy and young.

Josie Maran Argan Oil

One of the most innovative and “conscious” companies and products around.  Argan Oil has so many benefits for our hair and skin.  I use a small drop on my face and rub a few drops through the ends of my hair before bedtime.  I awake feeling soft and renewed.

Peep Show Firming Lotion by The Body Bartender

Yes, I really use my own products!  : )  I use everyday after my bath.  I love the way it makes my skin soft and supple; and I feel even better knowing I’m not using any harsh chemicals or parabens.

SkinCeuticals Phloretin CF

Although a bit pricey, this product really works!!!  It combines potent antioxidant power with cellular renewal and collagen synthesis for a younger-looking and brighter face.

Beauty Products:

Physicians Formula Bronze Booster in Fair to Light

I use this everyday as all-over powder – it comes in three shades.

Makeup Forever HD Foundation in color N128

This is my go to summer foundation!

bareMinerals SPF 15 Foundation in Medium Beige

This is one of my all-time favorite foundations.

Korres Quercetin & Oak Concealer in 02 Light

I absolutely love this concealar; it helps minimize fine lines and improves skin texture. When I really want to do light makeup, I just use this concealer with the Bronze Booster powder.

Guerlain Terracotta Blush & Sun in 01 Sun Light

Truly one of the best blush/bronzers.  So natural looking with the slightest touch of shimmer.

Avon Glimmersticks For Eyes in Cosmic Brown

I’ve been using this eyeliner since college.  I love the way it goes on and stays on

Although I love the intensity of black liner, I find a dark brown to be more flattering and not as harsh.  Always use a black mascara when using a brown liner.

Hollywood GlamGlow

This is a facial in a jar!  My new favorite obsession! I like to use this right before a big night out or on the day of a photo shoot.  Really makes your skin glow and feel flawless.

Hair & Nails:

Bumble and Bumble

I discovered this line of products several years ago while traveling back and forth to New York City.  I needed to get my hair done for an event and the concierge sent me to the Bumble and Bumble salon on East 56th Street in the meatpacking district.  I think I bought every product for my hair type that day! LOL! I have since loved and used this thickening shampoo and conditioner combination.

Redken Aerate 08

I have very fine hair and have tried EVERY product on the market to achieve thicker/fuller looking hair.  My stylist Jazz Monroe at Outlaw Salon and Barbershop in Los Angeles, used this on my hair one day and I haven’t put it down since.  This is truly a volumizer that lives up to its name and a little goes a long way.

Kevin Murphy

Although pricey, this line of cleaners for the hair is worth every penny.  I like to change up my shampoo and conditioners, so when I’m feeling a bit like splurging, this is what I choose.

 Honey Do Shampoo and Conditioner

I recently discovered this shampoo and conditioner by A Beautiful Life and was immediately sold, as it’s formulated without parabens and sodium lauryl sulfate.  This hair care duo definitely gets my vote!

I don’t necessarily have a favorite brand of nail polish; and I LOVE changing my nail color too frequently to have a favorite shade; however, to keep my nails long and strong, I take a daily prenatal vitamin supplement.  Prenatal vitamins have a higer potency which help nails grow (even helps your hair grow, too).

For my color, I go to Hayley Farrington at Goodform Salon in West Hollywood, California. And for cuts and styling, occasional extensions, and occasional color, I go to Jazz Monroe at Outlaw By Jazz Barbershop and Salon in Tarzana, California. For sewn in extensions, I see Valarie Johnson in Los Angeles, whom is available by appointment only.

Diet & Exercise:

I believe that everyone’s diet and exercise goals are and should be different.  However, no matter your goals or objectives, you should strive to look and feel YOUR best now what society or other people consider to be the “best”.

For me, I maintain my shape with at least one hour of exercise per day (combining cardio and calisthenics) with one day off for my body to rest and repair.  Also, calorie counting is the key to weight management; although, you should still be cautious of how many fat grams you intake.  I use a simple formula for keeping my ideal/present weight (118 lbs): I consume 1,118 calories per day.

Simple:  I takethe weight I want to be and add 1,000.

So, if your ideal weight is 135 lbs, then you wouldn’t want to consumemore than 1,135 calories per day.  This works the same way if you’re trying to lose weight, e.g., if you’re trying to get into your skinny jeans and that means you’re ideally 125 lbs, then you would want to drop your caloric intake to 1,125 calories.  No matter your weight or size, you (women) should never consumer more than 2,000 calories per day especially if you’re not exercising because this will definitely make you gain weight.
